Football is a competitive sport. You don't see teams insulting each other (that's usually what the fans do) or sabotaging each other, doing that would cause a scandal.
|
Managers 'trashtalk' each other all the time. Jose Mourino would always go on about how Alex Ferguson was a shit manager and that Chelsea would have no problems beating Man U in their game.
In addition-there's far more foul play involved: people dive, fake injuries, etc etc, and there are occasions when people lash out (Turkey vs Czech Republic in Euro 2008: Volkan got red carded for pushing over Koller).

Also-there is no more trashtalking in GW than in any other competitive sport (and yes, GW is, or at least was, competitive), so unless you really don't do any form of competition whatsoever, you can't really use that as an excuse.
EDIT:
What courtesy is that? is it the one called 'hay look, i'll gamble on that unranked guy who has a miniscule possibility of being good over my tried and tested friends list?'
|
I forgot to put what it actually was. That courtesy is actually saying hi and not going "rank plz rank plz like" 3 times in a row.

This thread is fill with EGO........... this is why GW2 needs a complete split meaning if i want to PvP I need a PvP character, there should be no TA, RA, or AB. I don't see the attraction to PvP I find it boring.

But do the players trash talk each other?
I'm talking about "foul play" as in sabotaging the other team... actually going out of their way to damage their opponents.

No-one does that in GW either. Yes, rawr got hacked, but I'm willing to put good money that no-one that they regularly play against did it. There's a lot of verbal abuse going around, but no-one means any of it. And yes, there are plenty of instances of players saying that other players suck and they would have no problems. The managers are also a bit like the stratcallers for a GvG team, so why you want to make the distinction I'm not sure.

Look at GW PvP.. you have guild drama (like I said, the last and only PvP guild I was in fell apart because some moron was bribed to kick everyone out) and everyone insults each other like there's no tommorow. That's not competition, that's... hatred? I dunno.
@Bryant - I was thinking more along the lines of GW PvP dying.

There's no trashtalking, insulting, or sabotage in sports???? Have you ever actually *played* sports?

It does happen in Guild Wars, but it happens to the lesser known guilds that no one cares about. Greedy members who want to rise in ranks get other people kicked, disgruntled ex-members start drama...
As I said the only PvP guild I was in was destroyed because some idiot kissed enough ass to get made an officer, and then he kicked everyone out.

I find that it's usually the fans who do the insulting, not the players on the teams.
I don't see the team players screwing around with their opponents.

Disbanding because of immaturity doesn't only happen in PvP guilds. Just because the only PvP guild you were in ended up like that don't mean they're all like that, and taking one guild as an example equates to an extremely shoddy conclusion.
As for sports, there have been alot of deliberate fouls. I'm sure that when Zidane did that headbutt and knocked that other guy off his feet he was meaning to do it because he was pissed off. I'm not big on football, but there is even a reference to that on Guild Wars.
When things get competetive some people will stop at nothing to win.

Yeah, but I heard that the idiot who kicked everyone out joined another guild... and that guild fell apart in a few days.
I used to hang out in PvPer hubs, like ID1 of HA, most of what they spoke about was guild drama and how so-and-so was a complete scrub.
And Zidane got.. what, red card for that? I don't remember, I don't like sports too much... in Guild Wars you can be the most verbally abusive jackass out there and you can get away with it.
That's why I hate competitive stuff. There's too much team spirit.

And break ups like this don't happen in PvE guilds?
Jackassery is seen everywhere in GW.

In general PvE guilds are more relaxed, everyone is basically more mellow so they don't really let drama get to them. It is also easier to rebuild a PvE guild than a PvP guild... cause PvE players are easier to find, I think.
Jackassery is everywhere in Guild Wars, but it is more prevalent in some areas.

The past four guilds I've been in have all broken up due to massive e-drama issues. All PvE. My experience has shown me that both communities aren't so different.

But PvP guilds are usually more on the serious side, unlike PvE guilds.
(why is it always that you and I always wind up arguing about a topic that's only barely related to the original topic?)

There are PvP guilds that don't take the game seriously as well. Likewise, there are PvE guilds that take the game *very* seriously.

PvPers discriminate based off of rank. PvErs discriminate off of titles. For PvE you can say "well you don't have to play with them or those areas", the same thing can be said for HA.

But if you want to HA, you're stuck.
If you want to PvE, there's multiple areas you can go to.

HA is not the only form of PvP GW has. You've already shown that there are other alternatives by telling me you liked to AB.
Likewise, if you want to DoA but don't have the required title rank, you're stuck.

It's easier to get PvE rank than PvP rank, no?
The thing is, most people do DoA for the cash... there are multiple ways of getting cash in GW. There is only one way of getting fame in GW - HA.

There should be some kind of beginners HA for R3-
Just like the Arenas for low lvl characters.
Reminds me that the best thing of IWAY was, that it wasn't hard to find a group no matter the rank.
